A Day of Remembrance! Memorial Day 2017

As I sit here thinking about what to write about this upcoming Memorial Day I remember what my Grandfather said about serving during World War II. He said that he was a part of a group of 300 who went through basic training together and after it was all said and done only 76 came home. Some disabled and others unhurt but emotionally affected. So, I think every time I hear that we in the United States have it made with what we have in our freedoms. To be able to go, say, do and see what we want, you must remember that all this freedom we have came at a cost! Just think of the 224 that didn’t return in just my Grandfathers group and times that by all the groups from all the wars and battles that have gone by over the last 241 years and stand there and tell me it’s Free! Folks the word Freedom may have the word free in it but, trust me it is NOT FREE! So, I am asking all of you to take the time and remember all those who have given their lives for our freedom and those who have served before, now and in the future here at home and across the world because they are the reason we do have all the freedoms to do the thing we all love to do including going to the races, being able to race the cars or just be a part of racing in one way or another, and just enjoying our sport of auto racing across this great country of ours. Love it or hate it America is our country and it is up to us to see she continues to keep moving forward with all the freedoms that our forefathers established those many years ago. Take the time when you see any of our service men and women and thank them for their service and especially those who didn’t come home and remember them always. It’s not just the military but also our police, fire & rescue personal and all the first responders who need to be Thanked Also!

Rain Stay’s Away as MARFC Returns to Flat Rock for 2017 Event!

Finally, clear sky’s & cool temperatures for the forecast for our rescheduled fan club night at the Flat Rock Speedway made for a great night of racing. We were able to sign up some new members and renew a few more that evening and it was one of the new members John Jeffery who won our MARFC members raffle for the night! 2016 Street Stock Champion Greg Studt was presented our MARFC Uniform/Helmet bags as Greg is also the only driver in the history that has won all three championships for each division at the speedway. A big thank you to Ron Drager, Scott Schultz and the Flat Rock crew for hosting our event again this year. Thanks to Gary & Rich for all the great PR for the night also. MARFC table volunteers for the night were Jeff Horan, Al Peltier, Kyle Peltier, John Jackson & Doug Jakeway. MARFC at Spartan Speedway in 2017!

Our first night of the season was clear & sunny for our members to see some great racing at the Spartan Speedway. Our MARFC Members Raffle was won by Kathy Boyd. Our MARFC Uniform/Helmet Bag was presented to # 38 Modified driver Gord Alblas for support of his division. Unfortunately, Gord blew his engine during qualifying and unable to race that night. Many thanks to Jim Leasure and the staff at Spartan for the invite again this season. Thanks to Doug Jakeway and new board member John Jackson for the help at our sign in table for the night. MARFC Night at Flat Rock Cancelled for Tonight!

OK Folks, Mother Nature has given us the RED FLAG on tonight’s racing event at the Flat Rock Speedway even though the speedway worked hard on the weepers they just can’t get it done in time with the amount of rain we have had in the last three days in order to have a night of safe racing for all involved. We have worked with the Staff at Flat Rock to get our fan club night rescheduled & I know this is going to be short notice but we will try again next week MAY 13th so please if you know others who don’t have internet let them know of the quick turnaround to get this event in for 2017. Thanks to Scott, Ron and the crew at Flat Rock for the rescheduling so quickly. Will see you next week & as always keep racing! Wild Bill MARFC President
