Please take the time to remember our Veteran’s as they have given all they have to protect us from harm on all fronts across the world and here at home. They have earned out respect and our thanks for their service to us and our country. So again, I ask please remember those who give their life for our freedoms and those who served and all those who are serving now all the love and support that we can give. “God Bless” and keep them all in in care now and forever more.

Report on MARFC October 2021General Meeting!

Well, our October general meeting held at Dooley’s Tavern in Shelby Twp., MI was a highly informative meeting with all our guest speakers. First up way Larry LaMay with an update on the second release of his book 60 of years racing on both sides of the fence. He was incredibly happy with all the folks that bought and enjoy the updated version. Then Kevin Schwarze let us all in about the books that he has written in the past and his current release about Bobby Bower. The Metdepenningen family was on hand to talk about how they all got started in racing and what the future for all three will be in 2022. Kyle sent us a video presentation because he was working out of town. Kyle was enormously proud of his family’s support in his racing career and won a championship to boot this past year. Rayce talked about some of the family’s history during his time growing up in a racing family. Then Jeff gave a remarkably interesting insight into what it takes to run three cars during a race season. Then Tom & Nathan Sprotberry, both informed us of how Nathan grew up following in dad’s footsteps starting at age 14 and Tom express how proud of Nathans knowledge and quick to learn abilities. Nathan was excited to win his first championship and hopefully be able to repeat it again in the near future. We held our annual fundraising raffle. With 1st prize going to Tina Caudill who donated half of it back to the club for the children’s Christmas party. Thanks Tina! Kevin Schwarze was in the house to win 2nd prize. Then 3rd prize went to Richard Roggow. The in-house raffle winner was Nathan Sprotberry. Our 50/50 winner was Amanda Metdepenningen and she donated it back to the MARFC/ Randall Ginter Benevolent Fund. Big Thanks Amanda. Also, need to thank Larry LaMay, Kevin Schwarze, WOW Racing for the extra raffle items. Special Thanks to Terry Bogusz Jr. and Eddie Sachs Racing for paying for pizza for the members in attendance. An Eddie Sachs for setting up the date and location for our meeting. We did meet our goal and passed last years total Thanks to all of you for your support. Racing World Lost Three Great Legends!

This month the racing community lost one of the greatest broadcasters and announcers the racing world had ever had. Bob Jenkins passed away at the age of 73. Bob attended our banquet in 2016 to receive our MARFC/Eddie Sachs Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award and was greatly appreciative of receiving it. We also lost another legend in our sport here in Michigan the host of “The Racing Show” George Keen at age 77. George was also presented our MARFC Media Award back in 2010. He was known as a fun-loving gentleman who owned, sponsored, race cars and as a broadcaster promoted racing most of his life and will truly be missed by so many in the racing world. Then we were informed that longtime promoter of the Galesburg Speedway that hosted many MARFC events Ralph Warning passed away on August 12, 2021. He promoted the Galesburg Speedway for 15 years. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families. “Rest Well” to them all! (Photo Top Left: Eddie Sachs Jr., Bob Jenkins, and President Bill Barnhart) ( Photo Top Right: George Keen)
