MARFC Goes Road Racing in 2019!

Beautiful day of racing at one of Michigan’s most picturesque racetracks on Sunday July 28 as Waterford Hills Road Racing hosted MARFC. On tap was the Vintage race weekend their biggest race weekend of the year with drivers from all over the US & Canada in attendance with their cool vintage racing machines. Buzz Merchlewitz from Crossville, Tennessee was the grateful recipient of the MARFC Helmet/Uniform bag. Buzz was racing his 1959 Austin Healey Sprite # 511 which he has owned since 1973. This was his very first visit to the challenging twists and turns of Waterford Hills and he took quite a liking to the track, with two firsts and one second place finish on the weekend. Buzz told the crowd that not only was he coming back next year, but he was going to tell all his friends down South about the fantastic facility and great people he met at Waterford Hills and to come up next year. Thanks to Joel Hershoren, Kathy Arnold, Mark Hershoren and Keith Price of Waterford Hills for their hospitality. Special thanks to Rand Thompson for representing the club and this report & photos.(Photo Top: Buzz races his red 1959 Austin Healey Sprite #511 down the frontstretch at Waterford Hills) (Photo Bottom: Buzz Merchlewitz (center) with Waterford Hills representative Keith Price (L) and MARFC Board Member Rand Thompson (R)

MARFC at Thunderbird Raceway in 2019!

A little warm with some sun and a great breeze was on tap for our annual trek to the Thunderbird Raceway. Tons of cars in the pit area with great side by side racing in all divisions. Great to see a few of the Mini-Wedge kids & families stop by the table to say Hi! Our MARFC Uniform/ Helmet Bag was given to long time racer who support his division and the track Modified driver # 6 Mark Farber. Long time MARFC member Peggy Mackey won our MARFC raffle for the night. Special thanks to Tom Sprague and his entire staff for the hospitality of having us back again. Thank You to Bill Walters for helping man our table for this event. (Photo Top: Mark Farber & Bill Walters) ( Photo Bottom: Peggy Mackey & Bill Walters)

Mother Nature Wins the Weekend over MARFC Events!

MARFC Lost again to as Mother Nature was not kind the day of our event at the Mt. Pleasant Speedway with temperatures up into the 90’s and forced the speedway to cancel the evenings racing events. Many racing facilities across the state had to make the same call so no one would be put in harm’s way with high heat & dehydration looming about. Sorry there is no time to get our event rescheduled for this season and Thanks Betty Crook and staff for all they do for our sport! And then on Saturday Thanks again to Mother Nature for helping us miss another great racing event at the Merritt Speedway. With the high temps and rain all around the speedway had no choice but to cancel for the evening. A Very Special Thanks to Mike and the staff for trying to make the racing work for the night. Hoping that next season we will get it in for sure. Sorry to say that there is no time to get our MARFC night rescheduled for later this season.
