NEW MARFC Online Portal !!

As you can see, the MARFC online presence has changed…dramatically.

We hope this portal will provide a different and interesting link to all things MARFC and allow us to add new features and function in the future, as well as provide access to all the information members need.

This is a work in progress and I am sure there are things that will have to be tweaked..maybe a some wedge here, some stagger there, but all in all, I think the set up is pretty close to giving us a good qualifying run.

Don’t hesitate to let us know what you think, just use one of the new features of the site to send us your message using the Contact Us link at the left.

Enjoy!!

From the President – April 2010

I don’t know about you but I really enjoyed the Daytona 500 even with the problems with the race track and the 2 red flags, I enjoyed the nap I got and the end of the race had me on the edge of my seat. Glad to see Jamie Mac grab the win but I was pulling for Harvick. Not just because I like him but I drew him in the pool and I stood to make $150.00 if he won. Oh well, it was a great ending I thought and had me up in my seat and screaming like I haven’t done for many years. My wife, Julie and I attended the MSTRC Bowling tournament held back in February at the Capital bowl in Owosso and we had a great time. It was good to see funds raised for this year’s two benefactors, Jeremy Dickman and Alan Taft and we had a great time visiting with many of our members and a bunch of my racing friends in the middle of the winter. I can’t wait for the green flag to start the 2010 racing season as I know that this month we will begin to hear the engines roar and get that first whiff of racing fuel as well as the smell of burning rubber. Whether or not our first time to the track is for practice or to see opening day somewhere I wish all of you a great time and safe travels this year. If you are like me I am sure you are ready to see some real live racing at any one of our great Michigan Short Tracks or anywhere in the Tri-State and Canada area for that matter. Winter is hereby gone, done, and over with so let’s get ourselves to the races. The club has 18 different racing events on tap this year as of this writing so be sure and take a look at the upcoming events page for the complete schedule. Before the season gets going I want to express my appreciation and a hearty Thank You to all of our member tracks for what they do for us by hosting these days so that we can be the best fan club in the country. Please be sure and thank them as well and support them whenever you can in addition to their hosted fan club day.

The 2010 National Association of Auto Racing Fan Club’s 58TH Annual Convention will be held on Saturday May 29, 2010 at 8:00 am! Location of this event will be at the Clarion Waterfront Plaza Hotel located at 2930 Waterfront Parkway, Indianapolis, Indiana. Tickets for this event are $ 16.00 per person in advance. We are once again planning a patron page in the annual program and would like to beat the Hoosier Auto Racing Fan Club again for the sixth year in a row. The cost of your name on the patron page will be $ 2.00 for each name. You will get the chance to meet members of other fan clubs from across the country and also get a chance to go over to the speedway and meet some of the drivers. All of this for just $16.00 what a deal! Please e-mail me at president@marfc.org by May 2, 2010 to purchase tickets to the event or to be included on the patron’s page.

Monthly Update – April 2010

Racing season is upon us so get ready to make some noise and get out to the tracks that support us. The weather is getting better; the birds are chirping and the engines are barking, let the green flag fly!

Let’s Go Racing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MEETING UPDATE

The club made a day of it at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum on Saturday, February 27, 2010. 24 MARFC members came out for a short meeting and a chance to wander the halls of this great exhibition of automotive history. Our 50/50 winner was Club President, Dave DeHem who donated the $26.00 back to the club for the Kid’s Christmas party. It was really neat to see the early Chrysler products all the way up to the cars of today. Regular admission to the facility is very reasonable and should easily be a must see for everyone. I have included a couple of pictures from the day as well as a couple from the MSTC Bowling Tournament.

The club had a great day down at the Toledo Speedway Bar and Grille on March 13th for the “Racers Re-union” and MARFC Meeting afterwards. There were hundreds, if not thousands of pictures on display of drivers and tracks from yester year as well as some great displays of what racing used to be. There was a virtual who’s who of longtime drivers, both retired and some still pushing down the loud pedal. Marty Blume, one of the state’s leading historians was one of our guest speakers and he shared with us his history and knowledge of the Jackson Motor Speedway where he was first introduced to racing. Marty also shared some of his thoughts on racing today and shared about his work as a Board Member of the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame and how the process of being inducted into that great hall works. Ron Drager spoke about the proposed ticket tax in Toledo and how that might affect the Toledo Speedway. Ron also shared the video that was played at the ARCA banquet last fall as well as what is coming up for the ARCA Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards in 2010. Scott Schultz, track manager at both the Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways shared the highlights of the upcoming seasons at both facilities. Michigan Motor Sports Inductee and Flat Rock/Toledo announcer Gary Lindahl wrapped things up for the night with a few racing stories of his own. Super Late Model Driver Royce Cornett won the 50/50 and donated the $105.00 back to the Kid’s Christmas Party, Thank You Royce, the kids’ appreciate it. Sorry, the pictures from Toledo did not turn out.

Please welcome aboard Chuck Horan who has been appointed to the Board of Directors to fill a vacancy and also welcome aboard to Rand Thompson who has been appointed by the Board of Directors as our new Public relations director. We will post pictures of these two gentlemen as soon as we can obtain them.

From the President – February 2010

Wow, what can I say? Great weather, great people, great food, and a great time had by all. One more banquet is in the books and now it is time to get ready for the upcoming racing season. I would be remiss if I didn’t say Thank You to all who helped out by setting up or tearing down at the banquet hall as well as the following for their help in preparing for the Banquet. Larry and Sue Iacoboni as raffle prize chairpersons, Fran Russo as Ticket chairperson, Laura Tucker, Sue Ginter, and Cory Russell for selling raffle tickets, Bill Walters for picking up and organizing the trophies. Last but not least, Wild Bill Barnhart for getting the awards ordered and the program put together. Those folks took a ton of work off of my plate and did an excellent job. We are in the process of locking our Fan Club Days for 2010 and will have a tentative schedule on next month’s website update so you can begin planning your travels for the summer. If your name has been “HIGH LIGHTED IN ORANGE” on your printed newsletter then you need to renew your membership for 2010 RIGHT NOW so you don’t miss out on the benefits of being a MARFC member as you don’t want to miss out any of the great events being planned for the 2010 racing season. 2010 membership cards will be mailed out with the March newsletter and as always. If you have any questions or comments e-mail me at .

Yours in Racing
