September 2003

Only a few more special race events remain for the 2003 season. Just can’t believe that it has gone by that fast. Our 38th Annual Awards Banquet will be here before you know it so mark it on your calendar and remember to get your tickets early. The date is January 17. 2003 and there is more information coming soon.

Great to see some of our members that helped out at the Owosso clean up day. All involved did an outstanding job. Also, great to see that Tri-City Speedway is back up and running on Thursday nights. Not very often that a track closes and can reopen again. Best of Luck to the new owners for the rest of this season and hope all goes well in the future. If you get the chance try and stop in and check them out.

On August 17, 2003 MARFC presented the Michigan International Speedway with a Special Plaque Congratulating MIS on it’s 35th Anniversary. President Brett Shelton sends his thanks on behalf of MIS to the many fans for their continuous support.

Once again our condolences goes out to the family of club member and driver Carl Bumgardner who’s father Roy passed away last month. Roy was a long time supporter of the Flat Rock & Toledo Speedways with Royal Truck and Trailer. He will be missed by many.

As always, Keep Racing!

July 2003 Minutes

President’s Desk

July 2003

I would like to take a minute to talk about tracks closing. We have lost a few in the past few years. We all have our favorite tracks that we go to each and every week and some of us travel around and check out many others through out the season. Some tracks are well attended and have a great foot hold on racing and have no problem with continuing to do so in the future. While others are struggling and just keeping the gates open with low car counts and fans in the stands. If these tracks close they will never open again. Neighbors and local governments work hard to see that we will soon not have any local racing in the state. As fans we need to keep supporting all the tracks and when someone says that a track is poorly run and should close we need to speak up and say that we need to give all tracks and the staff working at them the chance to work things out and fix the problem. But, to fix a problem you must know about the problem. I have heard drivers complain about an officials here and there but, they love to race and work through the problem. Each and every one of our membership tracks has to best promoters that a fan can ask for. Through the MSPA (Michigan Speedway Promoters Association) they work together to help keep their tracks working as fan friendly facilities. We as fans need to keep supporting all these tracks and when you see and official or the promoter tell them Thank You for giving you a great place to come and see outstanding racing. This is just one race fans option.

Also a Very Special Get Well Soon the Dick Crook of the Mt. Pleasant Speedway and to Ralph Warning of the Galesburg Speedway both promoters are dealing with major medical problems these past couple of months. Our thoughts and prayers are with them both and a speedy recovery in the near future.

Please remember if you are a club member and wish to receive the newsletter via e-mail please contact me through this site and let me know and if you have changed your service please let me know also. You don’t want to be without our monthly update.
