THE PRESIDENTS THOUGHTS FOR JUNE 2012!

Our season has not gotten off to a very good start after losing out first two fan club days to rain. That poor weather has affected many of our tracks across the state as well so if you can, get out and support you local track as well as take advantage of the various different MARFC events on tap for the season. I-96 has been re-scheduled for August 25th and Auto City has been re-scheduled for July 21st. Lets hope that the weather continues a favorable turn around and we can get some racing done this summer.

I want to say Thank You to Pat Moran, Chris Aleksander, and Moran Chevrolet for once again sponsoring the printing of our “Cheer Raffle Tickets”. If you are in need of a new or used vehicle, give them a call at 1-888-586-6726 at one of their two locations, one in Clinton Twp. and the other in Fort Gratiot near Port Huron. The tickets were sent out with this month’s newsletter so everyone should have gotten at least ten tickets to sell or buy for themselves. This raffle is the only source of fundraising we as a club have outside of donations from members. It is vitally important for you to either buy these tickets yourself or to sell them as these funds pay for things like our Kid’s Christmas Party and the MARFC Helmet Bags we give away at each and every Fan Club Day along with our other expenses for things like meeting rooms to hold our monthly meetings and our monthly mailings so it is vitally important that we sell these tickets. We have 6,000 tickets printed up so when you need more just let me know and I will be glad to get them to you. Just e-mail me at president@marfc.org

We will also be holding a tailgate/pot-luck/picnic at the Springport Speedway on our MARFC day on June 23rd. Bring a dish to pass and something to drink and the dogs and burgers will be supplied. Let’s meet in the parking lot about 3:30PM and enjoy something to eat before heading in to the track when the gates open at 5 PM. This is a free event but donations of fixings and such are always welcome. If you can, please send me a message either by e-mail at president@marfc.org and let me know if you plan on being there.

Yours in Racing!
Dave DeHem MARFC President

Paul Anton below.

While I know that Sue Ginter was also there, I did receive pictures of club photographer Paul Anton and Board Member Larry Iacoboni down at Belle Isle helping out at the Detroit Grand Prix. Great job from all three of you working down there in the inclement weather and helping make our city shine in the public eye.

MARFC ATTENDS 2012 NAARFC ANNUAL CONVENTION!

The 2012 National Association of Auto Racing Fan Club’s 60TH Annual Convention was held on Saturday May 26, 2012 at the Clarion Waterfront Plaza Hotel located at 2930 Waterfront Parkway, Indianapolis, Indiana. We had a large presence at this event and our own Bill Walters was honored with the Lee Holst “Presidents Award”. Congratulations Bill, you have worked hard on this convention and attended for many years so this is an honor very well deserved. Guest speakers at this year’s convention were Former driver Tom Bigelow, USAC Drivers Darren Hagan and Kody Swanson, and Indy Car Official Tony Cotman. Charlie Patterson and Richard Hoffman were inducted into the Hall of Fame while Steve Sapp won the Tony Hulman award and the Late Dan Weldon was honored with the Arthur McHugh Memorial Award. Tony Cotman accepted on Susie Weldon’s behalf. Our own Eddie Sachs III was on hand to accept his Art McHugh Award from 2011. Eddie was not able to attend the breakfast in 2011 due to his responsibilities at the 100 year celebration over at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
