July 2003 Minutes

President’s Desk

July 2003

I would like to take a minute to talk about tracks closing. We have lost a few in the past few years. We all have our favorite tracks that we go to each and every week and some of us travel around and check out many others through out the season. Some tracks are well attended and have a great foot hold on racing and have no problem with continuing to do so in the future. While others are struggling and just keeping the gates open with low car counts and fans in the stands. If these tracks close they will never open again. Neighbors and local governments work hard to see that we will soon not have any local racing in the state. As fans we need to keep supporting all the tracks and when someone says that a track is poorly run and should close we need to speak up and say that we need to give all tracks and the staff working at them the chance to work things out and fix the problem. But, to fix a problem you must know about the problem. I have heard drivers complain about an officials here and there but, they love to race and work through the problem. Each and every one of our membership tracks has to best promoters that a fan can ask for. Through the MSPA (Michigan Speedway Promoters Association) they work together to help keep their tracks working as fan friendly facilities. We as fans need to keep supporting all these tracks and when you see and official or the promoter tell them Thank You for giving you a great place to come and see outstanding racing. This is just one race fans option.

Also a Very Special Get Well Soon the Dick Crook of the Mt. Pleasant Speedway and to Ralph Warning of the Galesburg Speedway both promoters are dealing with major medical problems these past couple of months. Our thoughts and prayers are with them both and a speedy recovery in the near future.

Fan Club Nights

Spartan Speedway

Another perfect night for “Poor Paul” and his entire staff to have great weather to watch some outstanding racing. Pits were packed as well as the stands. Our members had a great time with all the divisions racing there at Spartan.

New MARFC VP Larry Iacoboni along with Jimmy Tucker presented our MARFC Helmet/Uniform Bag to John Ledwidge, driver of the Late Model # 34. John has been an outstanding sportsman to all his fellow competitors. Way to go John Sportsmanship is what we need in our sport everywhere. A Very Special Thanks to Paul, Jim, Bill and crew for allowing our members to be apart of some great racing again at Spartan. Great to see many members stop by and say HI.

Flat Rock Speedway

Beautiful weather on hand for an excellent night of racing with over 100 cars in compotation. Lots of action to be seen in all divisions of racing.

Street Stock # 41 driver Earl Roth was presented the MARFC Helmet/Uniform Bag by board members Fran Russo, Cory Russell, Larry Iacoboni, and Al Peltier for being the 5th fastest qualifier for the B Main cars. Earl was very appreciative of the bag and said he needed a new one for his gear. Special thanks to ARCA, Scott Schultz, Ron Drager and all the staff at Flat Rock for having us.

Very Special thanks to club member and current Street Stock points leader Brian Norton for stopping by and signing autographs for our members.

Flat Rock is always an active track with many members in attendance and many new members signing up.

Back at the end of May Mother Nature won at Owosso in June but has been rescheduled for August 23, 2003!

Mother Nature also snuffed out our trip to the Crystal Motor Speedway and we hope to get it rescheduled soon.

Hopefully in July Mother Nature will go on Vacation all month!
