MARFC at Spartan Speedway for 2016!

spartan web2The first of our 2016 fan club day events went on without a hitch. Weather was clear and cool until later when the sun went down it got colder but great racing was seen by all who attended. Our MARFC/Uniform Helmet Bag was presented to Legends # 17 driver Gregory Rudzik for his most improvement as a driver in his series. John Jackson won the MARFC members raffle for the evening. Many thanks for Jim Leasure and the entire staff of Spartan Speedway for the invite again this year. Table helpers were Doug Jakeway & Rand Thompson!(Top Photo:MARFC Board member Rand Thompson & Gregory Rudzik)( Bottom Photo: John Jackson wins MARFC raffle at Spartan)spartan web1

RIP LARRYWe here at MARFC mourn the loss of our good friend Larry Loynes! The final checked flag has waved on our friend Larry. Larry was one of our sports greatest announcers and radio host and will truly be missed by all those who had the opportunity to meet him and become a good friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family at this time. His love of our sport and was without one of the best in the business. Larry was able to MC a couple of our MARFC Banquets over the years and did an excellent job and Larry also received one of our sports highest honors and the 2007 Tom Carnegie Announcer of the Year. It was my honor to help Terry Fitzwater present this very special award to Larry than evening and know his was very humbled and proud to receive this great award. Although Larry’s voice is now silent here on earth I truly believe that his is calling some of the best races along with those other great announcers who have gone on before him. I can see him now standing next to Tom Carnegie smiling and having fun. Until we meeting again! “God’s Speed” my friend.

Sincerely, The Board of Directors and the entire membership of the Michigan Automobile Racing Fan Club.

dragerweb1Our meeting at the Toledo Speedway Bar & Grille was a very informative one for those who braved the weather and for those who stayed after the 13th annual Racer’s Reunion. ARCA President and track owner Ron Drager was on hand to update our members about how their 2016 season in doing and the upcoming events for their series. Ron informed all that a new deal was struck with American Sports Network to televise 9 additional events for 2016 along with the other races making almost the entire season will be on television in 2016 and beyond. Ron also spoke a little bit about the MSPA and what their goal is to keep the tracks open and give the fans & racers the best possible places to race at and see racing across the state. Then Scott Schultz GM for both Flat Rock & Toledo Speedways informed all about some of the changes going on at both facilities. He said that their X-car division at Toledo has be cut but the factory stock & enduro cars with be running more races and both tracks and at Toledo they will be run 4 to 5 different ways. Should be something to see later this season. Flat Rock still has all their divisions returning with many special shows scottweb1on tap in 2016. Many thanks to Ron & Scott for having us again this year and hope next year the weather is a little bit better for all who attend. (Top Photo: Ron Drager) ( Bottom Photo: Scott Schultz)
