Our October meeting was held at Papio’s Food & Spirits in Reese, Mi. Our guest speakers for the afternoon were Chris & Eric Fitzpatrick who spoke of how their father the late Bob Fitzpatrick who raced all over Michigan at local tracks like Mt. Clemens Race Track, Flat Rock, Toledo, and Windsor Ont. They talked about all the different kinds of racing they were brought up on like, go-karts, four Cylinders, Street Stocks, Sportsman cars and now racing different kinds of demo derby styles of racing. They also talked about that both their children are into racing go-karts at the age of 4 & 5 years old. What a great way to keep your family involved in our sport. We also had Jeff Skias from the Arthur Raceway tell us about his racing career in karts and running the raceway with as many as 80 karts on hand each weekend to have fun on the little dirt 1/8-mile facility.(Photo Top: Eric & Chris Fitzpatrick) (Photo Bottom: Jeff Skias)

It is with much great sadness that I relay the news of the passing of our club’s first President
and founder Vito LoPiccolo. The checkered flag waved for Vito yesterday morning as he passed away with his family at his side. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire LoPiccolo family at this time. Many years ago when I was asked to become a member of the board for MARFC Vito was the first to tell me that it would be a great learning experience and he was right.
Then when I became President of the club back in 1999 he was there again to encourage me forward and let me know that he was behind me 100%. After the first couple of terms as President I was speechless when Vito told me of how proud he was that a club that he didn’t think would last for more than five or ten years make it to 40 years because I was able to bring the club into the next century and build it up stronger than ever.
Now this past January when we held our 50th Annual Awards Banquet and to have Vito there to give an outstanding speech was just fantastic. Not only to have Vito there but to have the other founding fathers Willis Flokstra and the Lewis family on hand made the night a very memorable one for everyone.
I know that after Vito’s wife Barbara passed back a few years ago It hit him hard and now he stands beside her near the throne of God now and forever more.
“God’s Speed Vito” Our Beloved Friend and Mentor!
Funeral arrangements for Vito are pending at this time. We will update you as soon as we can!
We here at MARFC send our thoughts and prayers to the family of Mike Niebrzydowski as this time. Mike was a personal friend of mine and great guy to be with at the races. Mike worked with ARCA Street Stock Champion Jimmy Rae and many others before he made the move to track safety personal. He work at many different tracks in the Michigan area as well as working for Motor City Racing Promotions. Mike was involved in an accident at a speedway while working a routine track clean up session. Mike will truly be missed by his family and his extended racing family and those who he touched in life. As Mike as taken his final checkered flag in life he receives the green flag into heavens gates and stands near the throne of the Lord now and forever. “God’s Speed Mike” (Photo from a face book friend)
