Racing Legends Take Their Final Checkered Flag!

We hear at the Michigan Automobile Racing Fan Club were sadden by the loss of the legendary car owner and engine builder Robert Yates! He was a driving force back in the day that lead NASCAR to where it is today! We send our thoughts & prayers to the Yates Family & Friends at this time! “God’s Speed to your Mr. Yates”! We also learned that Roy Mott longtime MARFC supporter and the man who was the force that kept the Toledo Speedway open and turned into the great racing facility that it is today along with his partner Ron Drager. Roy always had his hand out to shake your hand anytime I was around him. A true racer, as well as race fan his love of the sport lead him to work for NASCAR and ARCA as an official for many years. We send our deepest sympathies to the Mott family at this sad time. Knowing that both these great men are now standing at the side of the Lord now will help with our sadness! Sincerely, Bill Barnhart MARFC President (Photo Left: Robert Yates, Photo Right: Roy Mott)

Rescheduled MARFC Night at the Auto City Outdoor Event Center for 2017!

Very cool but perfect night for some awesome sprint car racing at the Auto City Outdoor Event Center for our rescheduled fan club night event. Great to see so many club members in attendance to see all the three-wide racing and very fast sprint cars in action. Our MARFC Uniform/Helmet Bag was presented to longtime speedway worker & track supporter and a very surprised Sue Woolworth who is retiring at the end of this season. MARFC members raffle winner for the night was Greg Geren. We were also on hand to present all the feature winners with special trophies MARFC had made in memory of our longtime club supporter and very dear friend Larry Loynes who passed away early last year. Larry was the part of the history of Auto City & the man behind the microphone for many of those years. Larry wife Tammy and daughter Jenny were on hand to help during the presentations. Many thanks to Joe & Sharon for getting us rescheduled from our rainout earlier this season and to all the tracks stuff who assisted us that evening. Table helpers for the night were: Bill Walters, Al Peltier, Kyle Peltier, John Jackson, and Doug Jakeway. Outstanding night of racing at the I-96 Speedway with a very special event with the Great Lakes Super Sprint Series on hand. Sprint driver # 18 D.J. Lamance was given our MARFC Uniform/Helmet Bag. Then our MARFC members raffle was won by Felicia Dood. Many Thanks to Mike Mouch and his staff for a great night this season. Table volunteers were Dave DeHem, John Jackson, Doug Jakeway and Barry Meschke. Mother Nature tried very hard to dampen our night at the Tri-City Motor Speedway. Yet with a very large car count and packed grand stands with season Championship being crowned made for a great night for our members as well as all the other fans who attended. Street Stock # 91 driver Gary Shank Jr. was chosen to receive our MARFC Uniform/Helmet bag for having some hard luck earlier in the season. MARFC members raffle was won by Bob Bergevin. Once again, a very large thank you to Steve & Erika and the speedway for rescheduling our event on such a fantastic night of racing for all. Table helpers for the evening were Doug Jakeway, Barry Meschke, John Jackson, Larry & Kenny Letts and myself. Can’t wait to return again in 2018!
