April 2015 General Meeting Report!

frankiewebbarkerwebOn April 18, 2015 General Meeting: Our MARFC General meeting was held at DeCarlo’s Banquet Center. Our first Guest speaker was the veteran late model driver and now car owner Dick “Magic Man” Barker. Dick told us of how he got started racing in the late 60’s and the he and his brother Gary traveled all over the state and won many championship at different race tracks and said that his main philosophy in driving is to race clean and others will respect you and do you the same. Then Dick’s new young talented driver Frank Jiovani told us of how he got started racing in quarter midget karts and then onto legend cars. From then he went on the Street Stocks at Flat Rock and won a championship in a short time and now is driving for one of Michigan’s legendary drivers Dick Barker. We were also very glad to have former President russwebRuss Jacobson attend our meeting and with some help got him up to talk about his racing career that spanned for over four decades and that he still has the same sprint car he started with that his father helped build the famous J2 car. MARFC Members Passes!

We here at MARFC are sending out our thoughts & prayers to MCR Dwarf Car Series Promoter Steve Martin for the loss of his wife Sharon. Sharon has been ill for some time! Both Steve & Sharon have been long time MARFC Members and supporters and Sharon will truly be missed. Services for Sharon are private as per wishes of the family. Also the racing world lost one of the greatest racing promoters of all time as Earl Baltes founder of the Eldora Speedway passed away last week at 93 years old. What a great legacy he leaves behind. God’s Speed to both Sharon and Mr. Baltes!
