Racing Loses Long Time Supporter!

I have received word that the mother of long time MARFC Members and supporters Jimmy and Tommy Gullett, Mrs. Betty Gullett has passed away. Betty, along with her husband James “Big Jim” founded Jim’s Catering in Mt. Clemens. Jimmy and Tommy were racers at Mt. Clemens Race track and many other tracks in the area. Jim’s Industrial catering sponsors our MARFC Promoter of the Year and MARFC Fan of the Year awards. Betty was an ardent supporter of racing and a huge fan of her two sons racing careers. Funeral Services are as follows:

APRIL GENERAL MEETING DATE CHANGED!

Hi Race Fans, I need to inform you all of a change in meeting dates for our April 2013 General Membership Meeting. While our website shows it as the 20th, it has been re-scheduled to a week earlier for the 13th of April. The meeting is still at the DeCarlo’s Banquet Center at 7 PM as previousely noted. It had come to my attention that I had inadvertantly scheduled the meeting against one of our member tracks opening days and as such, I can not allow that to happen as we all need to continue working together for the betterment and benefit of the sport. This re-scheduling will make it possible for members to not only attend this very important meeting but will also allow those members that wish, to head down to the Toledo Speedway for their opening event of the year on April 20, 2013, the ARCA CRA Super Series/ARCA Midwest Tour Challenge race-150 laps. Practice Friday, race Sat at 5 p.m. Rain date Sun. 4-21 at 1 p.m.   Please note that this is not a fan club day but for many of us, it will be the first opportunity to see some racing and a chance to support one of our local tracks that supports the club so well. It is also vitally important that you as a member, attend the April MARFC General Membership Meeting on April 13th as this is our Bi-Annual elections for the Board of Directors and Executive Board. There are a few present Board members that have indicated that they will be stepping down from service as a Board Member so if you have been contemplating service to the club such as this, you will need to be present at that meeting to be nominated. Should there be more persons nominated for a position on the board then an election will be held. If the total number of nominees should not be more than the amount required for a full Board then those nominated will be considered as members of the next Board of Directors and will begin service on June 1, 2013. If you are interested in becoming a Board member or have any questions please respond by e-mail at president@marfc.org I hope to see you at the meeting and at Toledo Speedway. Don’t forget the MARFC Meeting this Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Toledo Speedway Bar & Grille following the Racers Reunion. The reunion gets going around noon until 5:30 with our meeting getting started at 6 PM.

Yours in Racing, Dave DeHem MARFC President

From the President’s Desk for March 2013!

It is coming, racing season is not that far away now. Once Daytona is behind us and the regular weekly NASCAR races are starting up tells us that the engines will be firing and the tires squealing before long. We as fans need to pull together and support not just our local tracks but all of our tracks. Times have gotten a bit better but the sport is still struggling at the grass roots level so we need to get out there and support all of our tracks. With your MARFC membership you get the opportunity to go to many tracks for free and while that is great, we need to help out those tracks too by buying some concession food or souvenirs and better yet, going back on a regular night and supporting their show.  2013 membership cards were sent out with the March newsletter. If you did not receive your membership card and your newsletter is highlighted in orange it means that your membership for 2013 has not been paid yet. To remain a member you need to send in your yearly dues as soon as you can so that you don’t miss any of the great events on tap for the 2013 racing season.

March 16, 2013 will see the club at the Toledo Speedway Bar & Grille for the Old Timers Meeting from noon to 5:30 PM with the MARFC monthly meeting following at 5:45 PM. The Bar is located at the Speedway and is reached from the Alexis Road exit off of I-75 (exit 210). It is the first exit in Ohio after leaving Michigan. Admission to the day’s events are free with Ron Drager and Scott Schultz on hand to give you an update on the 2013 racing season at the Toledo and Flat Rock Speedways as well as share some of the highlights of the 2012 ARCA Series and information On the 2013 ARCA Series presented by Menards that has had its first big show of the season at Daytona. Come early and enjoy the many pictures and displays as well as the great food at the Toledo Speedway Bar & Grille.

April  20, 2013: Details are being finalized for this meeting which will begin at 7:00 PM at the DeCarlo’s Banquet Center in Warren, Mi. Our bi-annual elections will be held at this meeting and if you are interested in becoming a MARFC Board Member the requirements are listed below. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at president@marfc.org. There will be some openings on the Board so please give it some careful consideration.
