September 2003

Only a few more special race events remain for the 2003 season. Just can’t believe that it has gone by that fast. Our 38th Annual Awards Banquet will be here before you know it so mark it on your calendar and remember to get your tickets early. The date is January 17. 2003 and there is more information coming soon.

Great to see some of our members that helped out at the Owosso clean up day. All involved did an outstanding job. Also, great to see that Tri-City Speedway is back up and running on Thursday nights. Not very often that a track closes and can reopen again. Best of Luck to the new owners for the rest of this season and hope all goes well in the future. If you get the chance try and stop in and check them out.

On August 17, 2003 MARFC presented the Michigan International Speedway with a Special Plaque Congratulating MIS on it’s 35th Anniversary. President Brett Shelton sends his thanks on behalf of MIS to the many fans for their continuous support.

Once again our condolences goes out to the family of club member and driver Carl Bumgardner who’s father Roy passed away last month. Roy was a long time supporter of the Flat Rock & Toledo Speedways with Royal Truck and Trailer. He will be missed by many.

As always, Keep Racing!

Bill Barnhart

Crystal Motor Speedway

They say the second time around is better. No rain great racing, packed pit area. New Board Member Al Peltier along with his son Kyle and other members Doug Jakeway, Larry & Kenny Letts were on hand to present the MARFC/Uniform Helmet Bag to Rich Buerge driver of Hobby Stock # 96 for his Hard Luck crashes and rolls over in the past few weeks. Cherry Speedway

Year number 2 provided a great day for our members at Cherry Speedway. Racing was outstanding on the dirt with many cars on hand in each division. 20 year veteran and current points leader Late Model driver Dave Hadfield Jr. was chosen to receive our MARFC/Uniform Helmet Bag because of his determination and consistency as well as sportsmanship in his division. Thanks to Jim & Sandy Coil for allowing our members in for some great racing. Thanks to all the volunteers who lent a helping hand. They were Larry & Kenny Letts, Dave DeHem, Laura & Jimmy Tucker, Shawn & Scott Kas.

Mid-Michigan Raceway Park

Over cast and the chance for rain did hold off for a fantastic night of racing. MARFC/Uniform Helmet Bag was presented to Guy Homerding Driver of the # 4 Limited Late Model by new board member Jeff Moroni. Guy has had a season of hard luck and we hope our bag brings a change for him. Special thanks to Gene & Linda Henrickson and the staff of Mid-Michigan for a great time. Thanks to Jeff, Anne, & Jeff Moroni along with Laura & Jimmy Tucker for their assistance at this great outing.

Michigan International Speedway

Many members did make it out even with the power outages across the state. All had a great time even after a little rain delay. Thanks to Bill Janitz and President Brett Shelton for having us back again this year and we are looking forward to 2004.

MIS was recognized for 35 years of operation and presented with a plaque to mark the occasion by Corey Russell and MARFC President, Bill Barnhart

Owosso Speedway

Cool and comfortable weather for our rescheduled night at the Owosso Speedway. Over 25 members signed in to seen some fantastic racing as well as autograph night. Michigan Modified # 55 driver Larry Wallace was presented the MARFC/Uniform Helmet Bag by Board members Dave DeHem and Laura Tucker. Larry does all the work on his car by himself and is an outstanding sportsman. He competes at both Spartan and Owosso Speedways with many changes to the car to be made overnight by himself. Great job Larry! Thanks to Karl Kiefer and Stacey Hoag for a great evening. Special thanks to Dave DeHem, Laura & Jimmy Tucker, Larry & Kenny Letts, Fran & Tony Russo for helping support our club at this event.
